Karen Robb | The Sewing Collective

Guest Workshop Leader – Cowes Fringe 2026

With over 20 years of professional experience in costume and fashion, Karen Robb brings world-class expertise, creativity and infectious enthusiasm to everything she does.

Karen began her journey as a professional costume maker, working across Ballet, Opera, West End theatre and major feature films. Her credits include Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and The Phantom of the Opera, as well as iconic stage productions such as The Lion King, Love Never Dies, and Spamalot. Working to A-list standards, she helped create costumes where precision, craftsmanship and flawless finishing were essential.

Fourteen years ago, Karen took a leap of faith, leaving the theatre industry to pursue her dream of fashion design. What began as The Sewing Studio IOW evolved into The Sewing Collective — a thriving creative hub built around skill-sharing, confidence-building and a shared love of sewing.

While originally launched alongside her bridalwear design work, teaching quickly became the heart of her business. Today, Karen is known not only for her exceptionally high standards, but for her warm, honest and encouraging approach. She combines traditional techniques with modern shortcuts and “tricks of the trade,” empowering students to achieve immaculate, professional finishes — without losing the joy of making.

Karen has taught complete beginners how to thread their first machine, supported experienced sewists in tackling ambitious projects, and guided countless students toward designing their own garments, achieving proper fit, and producing beautifully finished home furnishings.

Her classes are small, friendly and relaxed — motivational yet practical — creating a supportive space where creativity can truly flourish.

At Cowes Fringe 2026, Karen will bring her expertise and vibrant energy to a special Sewing Bee/Competition Workshop, where participants can challenge themselves, refine their techniques, and experience the thrill of professional-standard making in a fun, festival atmosphere.

Whether you’re a total beginner or an accomplished sewer looking to polish your skills, Karen’s passion, precision and playful spirit make her an inspiring mentor and an unforgettable part of this year’s programme.
