Celebrating 200 Years of Cowes’ Maritime Story
Be part of a unique community project as part of Cowes Fringe — helping to create a one-of-a-kind quilt celebrating 200 years of Cowes’ rich maritime history.
Led by Karen Robb from The Sewing Collective, who brings over 20 years of professional costume and fashion experience working across theatre and film, this creative workshop invites young people aged 0–18 to design and make their own fabric square.
Using sewing or fabric painting, participants can take inspiration from Cowes, sailing, the sea, and life on the water — letting their creativity bring the Island’s story to life.
Each square will become part of a larger community quilt, stitched together to form a lasting piece of art representing Cowes and its people.
-
£5 per square created
-
All materials for hand sewing and fabric painting will be provided
-
Participants are welcome to bring their own sewing machines if they wish
This is more than just a workshop — it’s a chance to contribute to a lasting cultural piece, created at Cowes Fringe and celebrating the Island’s heritage.
Once completed, the quilt will go on to be auctioned to raise funds for Mountbatten Hospice Isle of Wight, continuing its journey beyond the festival.
Come along, get creative, and help us stitch together the story of Cowes.
